Wattle Encryption
Sculpture By The Sea
18.10.24 - 04.11.24
The Wattle/Acacia plant species is found in every state and territory and in virtually every ecosystem in the country. From rainforests, mountain areas, deserts to sand along the beaches. By zooming in and out of images of the wattle tree on her computer screen, Ariella Friend translates the pixels and abstracted shapes she sees into a site specific sculpture that resembles the wattle but is strangely unfamiliar.
Cut and assembled by the artist from timber found on the floor of her local timber yard, then combined with painterly colour ‘Wattle Encryption’ creates a new environment- where the dualities of the digital and analogue are explored and the interconnectedness of humans and nature in a fragile world is apparent.
